“AMALGAMATED”
means
UNITED
“RIGHT TO WORK”
means RIGHT TO STARVE
“Right
to work” means less laws; cutting back on the enforcement of rules that keep us safe while we are on the job. The Company
assumes that if they can keep out the Labor Unions, they will then have free reign over their employees. If this happened,
wages would go down and medical and pension benefits would most certainly become obsolete.
Some
of the big companies like Wal-Mart keep the “hours worked” below 40 so they can skip benefits altogether.
Everything we have now, we have because of Unions. Since Unions have been around
the work week went from 6 to 5 days. The days themselves in some cases were 16 hours. Unions negotiate with the companies
for better wages and benefits and without them, we would have less or nothing.
In a Right to Work state, we must constantly organize to keep our Union Membership
numbers high. The more of us we are, the stronger we grow each day; however, this is a joint effort for everyone, and one
person can’t do it alone. To show dissention within is a crime and a waste of time. Companies love when they see the
Membership at odds with each other. United we stand, Divided we fall! So I ask you Brothers and Sisters of the local to come
together and support one another. Stand strong and proud, and let no one chip-away at our progress.
Brothers
and Sisters of First Transit,
As
we get closer to negotiations, it is crucial for all of us to stay united. Remember, strength is in the numbers. To back down
now (after all we have accomplished in the last two years would only give the company more power to diminish our wages and
benefits come contract renewal). Do not let these vacation issues put doubt in your minds. Don’t doubt for a minute
that we aren’t on top of things rest assured. The Union will not allow the Company to take away anything you have. Do not let the scabs of
our community poison your minds with deceitful information.
If
you have any questions, do not hesitate to call your Union rep.
