Below are the changes which will take affect for July 8, 2002 for all Valley Metro bus routes.

Transit Route Changes to be effective July 8, 2002

  • Extend weekday service hours to approximately midnight on 4 local bus routes in Phoenix. These routes include the Route 7-7th Street, Route 17-McDowell, Route 41-Indian School, and Route 170-Bell.
  • Extend existing Route 30-University from 32nd Street and Broadway Road to South Mountain Community College.
  • Increase weekday peak frequency on Route 35-35th Avenue.
  • Extend Route 59-59th Avenue from Bell Road to Union Hills Drive.
  • Increase weekday frequency on 4 routes in Glendale. These routes include Route 67-67th Avenue, Route 106-Peoria/Shea, Route 138-Thunderbird, and Route 186-Union Hills.
  • Implement Saturday service on 4 routes in Glendale. These routes include the Yellow Line, Route 106-Peoria/Shea, Route 138-Thunderbird, and Route 186-Union Hills.
  • Increase Saturday frequency on 6 routes in Glendale. These routes include Route 59-59th Avenue, Route 60-Bethany Home, Route 67-67th Avenue, Route 80-Northern, Route 90-Dunlap (Olive), and Route 170-Bell.
  • Extend weekday and Saturday service hours on 11 local bus routes in Glendale. These routes include the Yellow Line, Route 24-24th Street/Glendale, Route 59-59th Avenue, Route 60-Bethany Home, Route 67-67th Avenue, Route 80-Northern, Route 90-Dunlap (Olive), Route 106-Peoria/Shea, Route 138-Thunderbird, Route 170-Bell, and Route 186-Union Hills.
  • Implement Sunday/Holiday service on 10 local bus routes in Glendale. These routes include the Yellow Line, Route 24-24th Street/Glendale, Route 59-59th Avenue, Route 60-Bethany Home, Route 67-67th Avenue, Route 80-Northern, Route 90-Dunlap (Olive), Route 106-Peoria/Shea, Route 138-Thunderbird, Route 170-Bell, and Route 186-Union Hills.


Below are detailed route descriptions of service improvements for all transit routes in the Valley Metro service area.

ROUTE-BY-ROUTE SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS

  • Red Line Combine with Route 40-Apache to increase weekday frequency between Central Station and Tempe.
  • Blue Line Schedule adjustments to mesh with new Red Line.
  • Yellow Line Extend weekday service hours in Glendale. Implement Saturday service and Sunday/Holiday service in Glendale.
  • Green Line No Change.
  • Route 0-Central Schedule adjustments to mesh with new Red Line.
  • Route 3-Van Buren Change 43rd Avenue turnaround to use Mohave Street instead of Hadley.
  • Route 7-7th Street Extend weekday service to about midnight.
  • Route 8-7th Avenue Routing change on south end turnaround.
  • Route 10-Roosevelt/Grant Routing change at Durango Complex.
  • Route 12-12th Street No Change
  • Route 13--Buckeye No Change.
  • Route 15-15th Avenue No Change.
  • Route 16-16th Street No Change.
  • Route 17-McDowell Extend weekday service to about midnight in Phoenix.
  • Route 19-19th Avenue Incorporate State Capitol area loop.
  • Route 24-24th St./Glendale Extend weekday and Saturday service hours in Glendale. Implement hourly Sunday/Holiday service in Glendale.
  • Route 27-27th Avenue No Change.
  • Route 30-University Extend from 32nd Street and Broadway Road to South Mountain Community College. Incorporate April 15 service change (EVIT).
  • Route 35-35th Avenue Increase weekday peak frequency.
  • Route 40--Apache Combine with Red Line.
  • Route 41-Indian School Extend weekday service to about midnight in Phoenix. Incorporate routing change at Loloma Station.
  • Route 43-43rd Avenue Change south turnaround to use Mohave Street instead of Hadley.
  • Route 44-44th St./Tatum No Change.
  • Route 45-Broadway Incorporate April 15 service change.
  • Route 50-Camelback No Change.
  • Route 52-Roeser No Change.
  • Route 56-Priest No Change.
  • Route 59-59th Avenue Extend all trips to Union Hills Drive. Extend weekday and Saturday service hours in Glendale. Increase Saturday frequency in Glendale. Implement hourly Sunday/Holiday service in Glendale.
  • Route 60-Bethany Home Extend weekday and Saturday service hours in Glendale. Increase Saturday frequency in Glendale. Implement hourly Sunday/Holiday service in Glendale.
  • Route 61-Southern Incorporate April 15 service change. New schedule.
  • Route 62-Hardy No Change.
  • Route 65-Mill/Kyrene No Change.
  • Route 66-Mill No Change.
  • Route 67-67th Avenue Increase weekday and Saturday frequency in Phoenix and Glendale. Extend weekday and Saturday service hours in Glendale. Implement hourly Sunday/Holiday service in Glendale.
  • Route 70-Luke Link Incorporate service changes from March 11th.
  • Route 71-Professor Gus Eliminate.
  • Route 72-Scottsdale/Rural 30 minute peak service in Chandler weekday and
    Saturday. No Sunday service in Chandler.
  • Route 76-Miller No Change.
  • Route 77-Baseline Incorporate April 15 service change
  • Route 80-Northern Extend weekday and Saturday service hours in Glendale. Increase Saturday frequency in Glendale. Implement hourly Sunday/Holiday service in Glendale.
  • Route 81-Hayden/McClintock 30- minute peak and 60 minute off peak service in
    Chandler.
  • Route 84-Granite Reef No Change.
  • Route 90-Dunlap Extend weekday and Saturday service hours in Glendale. Increase Saturday frequency in Glendale. Implement hourly Sunday/Holiday service in Glendale.
  • Route 92-48th St./Guadalupe No Change.
  • Route 96-Dobson No Change.
  • Route 104-Alma School Restructure route.
  • Route 106-Peoria/Shea Increase weekday frequency and extend service hours in Glendale. Implement Saturday service and hourly Sunday service in Glendale.
  • Route 108-Elliot Route extended to serve Sunland Village at Sossaman and Baseline Roads.
  • Route 112-Country Club/ Restructure route.
  • Route 114-Via Linda No Change.
  • Route 120-Mesa Drive Eliminate late night trips.
  • Route 122-Cactus No Change.
  • Route 124-Warner Eliminated March 31
  • Route 128-Stapley Eliminate late night trips.
  • Route 131-START Add 1 A.M. trip beginning Central/Van Buren to connect
    With the 1st inbound Route 561 at Desert Sky Mall.
  • Route 136-Gilbert Incorporate March 4th service changes. Eliminate late night trips.
  • Route 138-Thunderbird Increase weekday frequency and extend service hours in Glendale. Implement Saturday service and hourly Sunday/Holiday service in Glendale.
  • Route 156-Chandler Blvd. No change.
  • Route 170--Bell Extend weekday service to about midnight in Phoenix. Extend weekday and Saturday service hours in Glendale. Increase Saturday frequency in Glendale. Implement hourly Sunday/Holiday service in Glendale.
  • Route 186-Union Hills Increase weekday frequency and extend service hours in Glendale. Implement Saturday service and hourly Sunday/Holiday service in Glendale.
  • GUS Incorporate service changes from March 11th.
  • Express Route 500 Outbound routing change to enter SR 51 at Thomas Road to avoid backup at 7th Street and I-10.
  • Express Route 501 Outbound routing change to enter SR 51 at Thomas Road to avoid backup at 7th Street and I-10.
  • Express 561 Elimination of Avondale portion (west of Desert Sky Mall). Add one morning and one afternoon trip from Desert Sky to downtown Phoenix.
  • Express Route 590 & 591 Incorporate January 591 trip and adjust schedules.

Express Route 592 Outbound routing change to enter SR 51 at Thomas Road to avoid backup at 7th Street and I-10.
